Parent Tips for When to Keep Your Child Home from School
A fever of 100.4 degrees within the last 24 hours, or a fever that causes chills, sweating, and muscle aches. Child should be fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medicine before returning to school.
Diarrhea or vomiting within the last 12-24 hours.
Bad cold or flu when there is excessive nose drainage or constant coughing.
Rash that could be contagious; rashes need to be checked by your pediatrician.
Diagnosed strep throat, or impetigo - students must stay home from school until they have been on antibiotics for 24 hours.
If your child is diagnosed with scabies, he/she may return to school after treatment. A physician's written confirmation of treatment and non-contagious status is required.
If your child has head lice, please notify the nurse at your child’s school. After treatment he/she must be checked by school nurse before returning to school.
If you are not sure about keeping your child home, call your school nurse.
