Our second and third grade students were excited to explore, create, and learn about engineering for two weeks in March. Jay Mankita was a Teacher in Residence at Franklin Avenue thanks to a Western Massachusetts Cultural STAR grant that Franklin Avenue received. Students had a total of 6 hours with Mr. Mankita to learn about the engineering process, use household items to build small machines, and push their creativity to the limit. Brandon, a second grade student in Mrs. Orzolek's class said, "This was the best day EVER!" as he showed off his project to Mrs. Tolpa. We are grateful to bring these type of learning opportunities to our students where they not only get to learn through play, but also get to imagine themselves as future engineers.
