HS Fall News 2024
Dear Munger Hill Families, I wanted to share that starting this week, Tammy Ward, who is the Assistant Principal at Southampton Road School, will be spending several days a week to support us at Munger Hill. We are deeply appreciative of this support, and please join me in welcoming Mrs. Ward to our school. The search process for an Assistant Principal here at Munger will impact how long this arrangement will continue. Please let me know if you have any questions. Sincerely, Alexandra Clines

A reminder to our families that only buses are allowed in the circle during drop off and pick up each day (9:00-9:15, 3:15-3:30). We are seeing a lot of parents driving through and ignoring the red lights on the buses, which is a violation of Massachusetts law. We ask that parents continue to follow the directions of our staff that are outside each day and be patient during drop off and pickup. We have a large number of families coming through and continue to look at our routines daily to ensure that we have the most efficient process, but we need everyone following the procedures to ensure that all staff, students, and family members are safe each day. We are seeing a lot of near misses with cars and people and ask that everyone please be sure they are driving safely and slowly during drop off and pickup while on the Munger Hill property. Thank you!

Westfield on Weekends’ PumpkinFest will return from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 19 on the athletic fields behind Amelia Park off South Broad Street. “A goal of any community event that brings people together is just that, bringing people together to interact in a world which is so online, so divisive sometimes,” said WOW President Bob Plasse. “It is so important for us to offer opportunities for us to play together and actually to work on a project and collaborate together.” https://www.masslive.com/westfieldnews/2024/10/pumpkinfest-set-to-return-with-madison-curbelo-performance-food-trucks.html

Westfield Public Schools continues to update our school district’s comprehensive safety plan in conjunction with the Westfield Police and Fire Departments. A team of Westfield Administrators and other staff members representing every level from elementary to high school, has been working collaboratively with the Westfield Police and Fire Departments to make sure our students, staff, and families have a current, research-based, and educationally sound emergency operations plan. As part of our continued work with Westfield Police Department and our ongoing training for students and staff, our city departments working together will conduct lockdown drills in our schools the week of October 15-18 utilizing the enhanced lockdown procedures known as A.L.I.C.E. (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate). If you have any questions regarding our drills, please contact Mr. Christopher Rogers, Director of Operations and Safety for the Westfield Public Schools at 413-572-6495.

Hello, Munger Hill families. I would like to inform you that Mrs. Susan Buchanan is no longer the Assistant Principal at Munger Hill School. We wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors and are grateful for her service and time at Munger. We will begin working immediately on filling the Assistant Principal vacancy. I will share more information by midweek on that topic. In the interim I will be assuming the additional administrative duties and you may see district staff at the building supporting us in the coming weeks as well. Thank you for your understanding and please let me know if you have any questions.

Rain in the forecast may have stopped some people from attending the Big E on Sept. 26, as the fair only managed 48,078 admissions, far short of the pleasant-weather standard. But on Salute to Westfield Day, it couldn’t keep several city residents from making the short trip to the West Springfield fairground to see their exposition favorites, like the Avenue of States. https://www.masslive.com/westfieldnews/2024/09/westfield-residents-enjoy-food-business-sightseeing-on-citys-day-at-big-e.html

Labor Day
Welcome back! We can't wait to see all of our new and returning students on Day One, Thursday, August 29, 2024! If you are a late enrollment and didn't get a letter with your teacher name, we'll have staff members out in the morning to tell you who your teacher is and help you find them. As in years past, all teachers will be on the blacktop Thursday and Friday morning to meet students, walk them inside, show them where the classrooms are, get their bearings, and get everyone settled for the first days of school. Teachers will have signs with their names on them and all other staff will be outside to help guide our students. We are so excited for Day One and hope you are too! See you Thursday!!

To emphasize the importance of attending school, DESE's "Power of Presence" initiative asks you to submit a creative piece of artwork, music, photography, videography, writing, etc. to express why you attend school. We hope to hear from everyone:pre-K to adult students, families, school staff, educators, and administrators! Some examples include a short story about your school community, a painting of your favorite teacher, a photo of your classroom decorations, a video interview of your favorite teacher, a song you've been practicing for the school play, a testimonial about a new skill you learned - we are encouraging you to get creative! We will choose one entry to be featured this spring, highlighting you and your school community! We can't wait to see what you create and what makes your presence so powerful. This opportunity is open to all students, school staff, educators, and families in Massachusetts public pre-K-12 schools and adult learning classes. Deadline: December 20, 2024 To Submit: Complete the Entry Form (with included Media Agreement language) Attach your submission to the form. Deadline is Friday, December 20th, by 11:59 p.m. The creator of the entry that will be featured in the spring will be notified on or before January 10, 2025. https://www.doe.mass.edu/sfs/attendance/?utm_source=DA-Commissioner%27s+Weekly+Update&utm_campaign=bcd0ba25fc-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2024_08_26_08_11&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_-bcd0ba25fc-%5BLIST_EMAIL_ID%5D

Beginning on Monday, Aug. 5, hundreds of students entering Westfield Intermediate School, Westfield Middle School and Westfield High School this fall will have an opportunity to familiarize themselves with their new schools ahead of the first day at the schools’ transition programs. Unfortunately, all of the programs are filled, but there will be scheduled orientations for some of the schools later in the month. https://www.masslive.com/westfieldnews/2024/08/hundreds-of-westfield-5th-7th-9th-graders-sign-up-for-transition-programs.html
