Allied Health

Allied Health is an ideal program for outgoing compassionate students interested in a career in the high-demand area of healthcare and human services. As a certified Nurse Aide Training Program (NATP) and Chapter 74-approved Health Assisting Program, we provide our students opportunities to train on campus in our nursing lab with the most up-to-date industry standard equipment available, including hospital beds, mechanical lifts, EKG machines, and vital sign and CPR equipment. Additionally, our students continue their training in long-term care facilities, hospitals, and other medical venues. Students who meet the Massachusetts Department of Public Health requirements may also be eligible to take the Prometrics Certified Nurse Assistant Exam. Our goal is to familiarize students with the diverse opportunities available in the healthcare field, in order to prepare them for entry-level employment and/or college after graduation. Through our affiliations with healthcare institutions in the Greater Westfield Community, our students gain hands-on clinical experience, giving them a valuable employment advantage. Our students also have the opportunity to explore other health-related careers through shadowing programs.

Our curriculum ensures our students are capable of reading, spelling, understanding, and communicating using accurate and appropriate medical terminology. Allied Health students learn the importance of maintaining patient/resident confidentiality and gain an understanding of their responsibilities for ensuring that patients’/residents’ rights are not violated. Their class work and clinical skills include the special needs of geriatric patients, and they practice delivering care to them in local nursing homes. Students also develop interpersonal, organizational, problem solving, and computer skills as they apply in the healthcare setting. Our program Instructors strive to instill a good work ethic by establishing realistic standards for attendance, appearance, and attitude both in the classroom and clinical settings.

When a person decides to become a nurse, they make the most important decision of their lives. They choose to dedicate themselves to the care of others.
