Welcome back to school! As we begin this new year, let’s all commit to focus on the importance of student attendance and achievement. Consistent attendance plays a crucial role in academic success and combined with a dedication to achieving personal and educational goals, it sets the foundation for a productive year. As we prepare to start on a new academic journey, I want to provide you with important information and updates to ensure a smooth transition into the upcoming school year.
Important Dates:
· Schools open for students in grades 1-4 at Abner Gibbs and Franklin Avenue Elementary Schools on Wednesday, August 28, 2024. This is also an Early Release Day for students with dismissal at 12:15 p.m.
· Schools open for students in grades 1-12 on Thursday, August 29.
· The first day of school for Kindergarten and Preschool is Wednesday, September 4.
· The last day of school will be June 17 if we do not use any emergency closure days.
The 2024-2025 school year calendar is attached to this email for your convenience.
Communication and Involvement:
Consistent communication between school and home is crucial for student success. I encourage parents and guardians to stay connected with teachers and administrators. Your involvement in your child’s education greatly contributes to their growth and development. Your feedback is important to us, and our staff are eager to hear your thoughts and suggestions as we work together to create an exceptional learning environment for all students.
Transportation and Student Schedules:
Busing information will be sent out to families beginning the week of August 19. If you do not receive this mailing, please contact our Transportation Office at (413) 572-6599. Student schedules will be available in Power School starting on Friday, August 16 for students attending Westfield Middle School, Westfield Intermediate School. Power School opens for elementary schools on Tuesday, August 20, and for Westfield Technical Academy and Westfield High School on Monday, August 26. If you are unable to access Power School, please contact your school.
Breakfast and Lunch:
I am pleased to announce that breakfast and lunch for students will be provided at no cost again at all schools. For more information, please visit the Food Services page on the WPS website or call our Food Services Department at (413) 572-6493.
