Over the past two weeks, the guidance departments of Westfield High School and Westfield Technical Academy, along with the Hampden County Drug Task Force, have sponsored assemblies in each of the high schools and an informational meeting for the community at large on drug overdose awareness, and in particular the online availability of counterfeit pills containing fentanyl.
The events were organized by school adjustment and substance abuse counselors Kristine Hupfer at WTA, Carrie Ann Fiordalice at Westfield High School, and Community Resource Officer Lt. Eric Hall in coordination with the Hampden County district attorney’s office.

This afternoon, Ms. Sarah Christensen of the Springfield Museums facilitated a presentation called "Us & Them" in the WTA Library for Ms. Winters', Ms. Cowhey's students and Mr. Daub's students. The presentation examines the experiences of Holocaust survivors who settled in the Greater Springfield area after World War II while also referencing historic domestic examples of discrimination, identifying upstanders vs. bystanders, and tracking the progression of hate from small acts of aggression through genocide using the "Pyramid of Hate" model. We would like to thank Ms. Christensen for sharing her expertise through this highly informative and interactive presentation. Special shout out to our very own librarian Sarah Scott for for coordinating with the Springfield Museums to make this presentation possible for our students!

We were delighted today to celebrate our official "groundbreaking" for Construction Technology's full house-build project at the corner of Mill and Paper Streets. In addition to Mayor McCabe and our superintendent, we were joined by a number of other elected officials, business and industry partners, and community representatives. We would like to thank the Westfield Technical Academy Foundation, the Polish National Credit Union, and our many other generous business and industry benefactors without whom this project would never have come to fruition. We also want to acknowledge our Electrical Wiring and Horticulture Technology Programs, both of which will be working on the project in collaboration with Construction Technology. We can hardly wait to see the finished product!

Earlier in the week, our Automotive Technology Students visited our local Massachusetts Army National Guard Armory to get a behind-the-scenes look at the Guard's vehicle maintenance operation. our students had the opportunity to rotate through different stations where they learned about the different vehicles and careers pathways available in the Guard. This highly interactive experience was a great way for our students to explore one of many career pathways relating to Automotive Technology. Many thanks to the Massachusetts Army National Guard for making this opportunity possible for our students!
