Although all 13 of the Allied Health students recognized in Westfield Technical Academy’s 18th annual CNA pinning ceremony on Feb. 14 have received their certificates as certified nursing assistants, their future goals in the health profession are diverse. Thirteen certified nursing assistants from Westfield Technical Academy’s allied health program were honored at a pinning ceremony on Feb. 14. Keynote speaker state Sen. John Velis, along with state Rep. Kelly Pease, Mayor Michael McCabe, Superintendent Stefan Czaporowski and WTA Principal Bruce Hastings were all on hand to congratulate the students for their hard work and dedication, and express their pride in the future health professionals. Superintendent Stefan Czaporowski is seeking 75 businesses and organizations to sign up for the Annual Career Expo & Job Fair on March 27 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. in Scanlon Hall at Westfield State University. Band Director Patrick Kennedy is “thrilled” to announce the first-ever evening Westfield Technical Academy Winter Band Concert on Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. in the WTA auditorium. Looking back on the beginnings of the program, Kennedy said it first started in 1997 when retired Westfield High School band director Thomas Gannon began playing with a handful of guitar players and drummers and other students who had an interest in music. The Westfield Historical Commission and Westfield Technical Academy’s Construction Dept. are teaming up to create historic house plaques, in a program initiated by Ward 3 Councilor Bridget Matthews-Kane. She said 20 to 30 other communities in Massachusetts have a similar program. Eager to share their work at the Westfield Public Schools Science and Engineering Fair on Jan. 29, students from Westfield High School and Westfield Technical Academy featured projects involving mechanical, digital, biological and psychological components to community judges from many fields and disciplines. At the end of the day, the top three projects were named along with 14 others that will advance to the Western Mass Regional Fair in March. Westfield High School sophomore Giovanni Santaniello enjoyed talking about the solar beach umbrella he created for his chemistry honors class.
