What is Title I?
Title I is a U.S. federal program in the United States designed to provide financial assistance to schools with high percentages of children from low-income families. The purpose of Title I is to provide all students a significant opportunity to receive a fair, equitable, and high-quality education and to close achievement gaps. All Westfield elementary and secondary schools qualify as Title I schools.
Title I provides funding to schools to support various educational activities, such as:
Additional teaching staff or support personnel
Professional development for teachers
Supplemental educational materials and resources
Programs aimed at improving student performance
Schools receiving Title I funds are required to develop and implement a plan to improve student achievement, and a critical goal of Title I is to engage families as partners to support student success.
