Westfield reached base in each of the first three innings against Agawam in a high school softball game at home on Monday but came up empty each time. The Bombers would eventually get their fill. Westfield junior captain Allie Rehor hit a lead-off double in the fourth inning and with two outs, scored the team’s first run of the game when Sophie Svantesson ripped a ball down the third base line into left field. Two innings later, Rehor hit a bases-clearing triple to take control of the game. After a grueling three-week stretch which saw the Westfield High School girls lacrosse team lose five straight games to begin the 2023 season, the Bombers are winless no more. Meghan Bowen scored five goals, Libby Senecal made 18 saves, and the Westfield Bombers held off the Northampton Blue Devils, 12-10, for their first win of the season. “We’re starting to get the flow,” Westfield girls lacrosse head coach Paul Fenwick said. “At the end, it came down to who wanted it more. They [Northampton] definitely were hungry; they wanted it. Obviously our girls had to pick up their game and come back. That was good that they did that. We haven’t been able to finish games so this was a good game for us to say, ‘yeah, we can do this.’” https://www.masslive.com/highschoolsports/2023/04/westfield-posts-breakthrough-victory-holds-off-northampton-12-10.html

Two weeks ago, the Westfield High School boys volleyball team suffered its first loss to Agawam in nearly seven years. “You want the team to respond in some facet and you never know how that’s going to be because it’s a new team, new year,” Westfield High School boys volleyball head coach Tyler Wingate said. “I guess in some respects it was good. …I think we certainly got a wakeup call no matter how that one turned out and not necessarily in a bad way. We needed to get better.” https://www.masslive.com/highschoolsports/2023/04/westfield-boys-volleyball-shuts-out-chicopee-comp-25-8-25-10-25-9.html

If Josh Mayo hadn’t already established himself as a top arm in the region in last year’s Class A Western Mass. baseball championship, the Westfield senior certainly did that in the Bombers’ 2023 season opener on Thursday. Behind a whopping 17 strikeouts from the hard-throwing righty, Westfield’s offense did just enough to scrape out a 2-0 win over Minnechaug on opening day at Bullen’s Field. https://www.masslive.com/highschoolsports/2023/03/westfields-josh-mayo-strikes-out-17-pitches-complete-game-in-win-over-minnechaug-on-opening-day.html?utm_campaign=masslivehs_sf&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook&fbclid=IwAR2cUljvn_69LGi10rE6xEWbYt1Y3ESFuNXEY8Ay5WknwcdFq4BEebMcbu8

On April 4th each year, National School Librarian Day recognizes the professionals who keep the school library in working order. School librarians spend long hours keeping the library organized. They are also dedicated to helping our children find the resources they need to keep learning. School librarians are the people who create an environment where students can learn every day of the year. Their work is an impressive accomplishment. The school librarians provide guidance and expose our youth not only to texts, print media, and literature but to digital resources and technology, too. These resources also connect them to libraries around the world. A school librarian’s ability to manage scores of media and a school full of students with numerous projects and schedules astounds us. Happy National School Librarian Day!
